Baggage on trip

On a few trips there are restrictions as to the type and weight of baggage that you can bring; on trips where it is not possible to take a suitcase you will need to have a soft bag or back-pack; the Pre-Departure information will advise you on this. Generally you can take whatever type of bag you wish. Just make sure that you don't take too much and that your bag will protect your belongings and stand up to rough treatment.

On-trip services

On all trips the staff are there to help if you need any special assistance. Camping trips tend to be more participatory than hotel-based trips. On some we have cooks and camp helpers to do the work, and you will not be expected to do any helping, but on most trips you will need to help by putting up your own tent, and sometimes also by joining a cooking or shopping rota.

Camping equipment

Where camping equipment is needed, all the communal items are supplied by MOTORHOME ADVENTURES, including two-person tents with sewn-in ground sheets and flysheets, all cooking and eating utensils, and in some areas stools and loo tents. On some camping trips you will need to bring a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat (though the latter is provided in a few areas). There are some other personal items which may be useful, such as a pair of walking boots, a warm jacket and a day pack. Specific requirements are given in the Pre-Departure Information for each trip.

Clothing

On most trips light, comfortable casual clothes are all that is needed, plus cold and wet weather protection. More details are given in the Pre-Departure Information.

EQUIPMENT HIRE & PURCHASE

An important aspect of preparing for any holiday is making sure that you have the right equipment, and if you are trying this kind of holiday for the first time you may be worried that you will need a lot of expensive gear. You'll certainly enjoy the trip more if you have suitable clothes and equipment, but don't worry. On the general run of trips you definitely do not need to spend a fortune on equipment.

Hire or purchase ?

For your convenience we operate a scheme through which you may hire or purchase such major items of equipment as sleeping bags direct from us, or at a discount from recommended suppliers around Delhi. For full details, ask for our Equipment Hire & Purchase section.

MOTORHOME ADVENTURES & THE ENVIRONMENT

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

At Motorhome Adventures, we are very well aware of the potential effects of tourism on remote places and small, simple communities. It is our firm belief that our small – groups philosophy provides an environmentally sound approach that increases the positives effects and keeps the negative once to a minimum.

Our type of holidays – organized by, led by and brought by people who have a genuine interest in and undoubtedly responsible tourism, offering more enjoyable holidays and helping host nation preserve and protect the very reasons why we visit them. In particular, we believe that the following are the key points in this philosophy.

Small groups: A small group makes our impact upon communities and cultures both minimal and positives: a village can cope with a dozen people, but a coach – load will often swamp it.

Food: When we are traveling by motorhome or camping, we try to purchase as much fresh food as is practical locally - another two-sided benefit. When we leave a site we dispose of our rubbish and leave the area as we would wish to find it.

Local staff: Wherever it’s practical, our guides and transport are recruited locally, in order to benefit the local people directly. We are also careful to ensure that staff and agents receive a fair rate for their work: we never try to minimize our prices at the expense of local collaborators.

Our own staff: We encourage our own staff to take an active interest in the environment and ecology of the places that they visit and to advise and assist groups to blend in with and respect the communities they meet.

Ecotourism – the way forward: Ecotourism may be a trendy term, but it refers to something that we at Motorhome Adventures have been doing for years. The key element is respect for the peoples that we visit, so that they benefit from our presence and are able to retain cultural integrity for future generations.
